Progress rings are everywhere in finance apps. They look tidy in a screenshot, and they tell you almost nothing.
What the rings hid
In interviews, people could not say how much they had saved by looking at a ring. They guessed from the colour. Two goals at 70% looked the same even when one was kr 700 and the other kr 70,000.
Rows instead
We moved to rows with the amount saved, the amount left and the next transfer date. A thin bar sits underneath for people who like a picture. It is less striking and much easier to read.
Goals kept going for longer after the change. I think it is because people could see what to do next, not just how far they had come.
